How the Emberquill Site Scan Works

The free scan on our homepage takes a URL and returns a score with a short list of findings. It takes about a minute, and no signup is required. Here's what happens in that minute, and what the number means.

What the scan checks

The scan groups its checks into three areas.

Crawlability. Before anything else, we check whether your site can be read at all: whether key pages return proper status codes, whether robots.txt or meta tags block indexing, whether AI crawlers specifically are allowed in, and whether your content renders without requiring a full browser session. A site that fails here scores low no matter how good the writing is — machines simply can't see it.

AI-visibility signals. Next we look at whether your pages are structured so answer engines can use them: descriptive headings, direct answers near the top of a page, consistent naming of your product and services, and metadata that states plainly what each page is about. These are the signals that decide whether a model quotes you or skips you.

Content gaps. Finally, we compare what your site covers against the questions people actually ask in your category. If buyers are asking "how much does X cost" or "X vs Y" and your site has no page that answers it, that's a gap — a place where an AI assistant will cite a competitor instead.

What the score means

The score is a weighted rollup of those three areas, on a 0–100 scale:

• 80–100: machines can read your site and find quotable answers. Keep going.
• 50–79: solid foundation, but specific gaps are costing you citations. The findings list tells you which.
• Below 50: usually a crawlability or structure problem. Fix access first; content work won't pay off until you do.

The score is not a ranking prediction, and it isn't a judgment of your business. It's a snapshot of how legible your site is to the systems that increasingly decide what gets recommended.
